2013 Falls Lake Challenge AR

Bushwhack Adventures is proud to bring sprint adventure racing back to the northeastern side of the Triangle area in 2013 with the Falls Lake Challenge! The FLC is designed to introduce new adventure racers to this exciting sport while also giving experienced adventure racers the chance to exercise their AR skills. There will be two course lengths to choose from: 8-hour and 4-hour.
EARLY REGISTRATION BONUS!! The first 10 teams to pay their registration fees will be eligible to use a rent-free canoe in the event. These canoes are being provided by Bushwhack Adventures and Frog Hollow Outdoors. Delivery, paddles, and PFD's are included. Limit one rent-free canoe per team.
Teams will be mountain biking, trekking, and paddling as they navigate their way to find checkpoint flags. Estimated distances in each discipline for the 8-hour course are: biking 20+ miles, trekking 5+ miles, and paddling 4+ miles. The 4-hour course distances will be about half of that. Your mileage may vary, depending on your team's navigation skills. :)
The course format will be modified rogaine style, with teams having lots of freedom to choose the route they follow to find the checkpoints. The course will not be marked other than with the checkpoint flags themselves.
Scoring will be based on the accumulated point values of the checkpoints found. Some checkpoints are worth more than others, so teams get to use their brains as well as their bodies as they work out a winning strategy for accumulating the most points!
The event will start and finish at a boating access area on the shores of Falls Lake. Check the Schedule for exact times. Expect some of the traditional Bushwhack perks like a race shirt, post-race meal, quality mytopo race maps and more!
First place teams in each Division will get their half of their entry fees back and a 50% discount towards a future Bushwhack Adventures event.
Gear List
The Bushwhack Standard AR Gear List applies to the 2013 Falls Lake Challenge. Additional required items are a longsleeve synthetic top and hat per person.

Exception for the 4-hour course only: GPS units will be allowed.
Any additional course rules will be announced at the pre-event briefing.

5:30 AM – 6:15 AM; 8-hour Team check-in at Race HQ. NOTE: Team check-in will consist of registration paperwork confirmation and racer sign-in. Teams will get race maps and UTM coordinates at check-in. Some of the checkpoints may already be marked on the map.
6:15 AM; Pre-race safety briefing at Race HQ for 8-hour teams.
7:00 AM; 8-hour Start at Race HQ.
8 AM – 9:15 AM; 4-hour Team check-in at Race HQ. NOTE: Team check-in will consist of registration paperwork confirmation and racer sign-in. Teams will get race maps and UTM coordinates at check-in. Some of the checkpoints may already be marked on the map. A UTM plotting review will be available.
9:15 AM; Pre-race safety briefing at Race HQ for 4-hour teams.
10:00 AM; 4-hour Start at Race HQ.
2:00 PM; 4-hour Finish at race HQ.
3:00 PM; 8-hour Finish at race HQ.
3:30 PM; Post-race meal and awards ceremony at Finish area.
Register
Participants must pre-register.
Registration fee is $55 per person for the 4-hour course, and $85 per person for the 8-hour course.
Teams of 1, 2, 3 or 4 people are allowed. Teammates must stay together on the course.
