2013 Nuclear Nuggets AR

Oflag
EVENT DATE: April 21, 2013

Last updated: April 22, 2013 - Results posted!

4/22/13 - The results are posted! We had a great day for racing, although the windy return trip on the lake was a bit more challenging for the 8 hr teams than they wanted it to be! 15 racers turned out for the 4 Hour course, and 37 racers participated in the 8 Hour course.

Rent-Free Canoes!

Bushwhack Adventures and Frog Hollow Outdoors are pleased to offer a rent-free canoe to the first 15 teams to register for the 8hr AR.

Bushwhack Adventures is proud to create a new adventure racing event in the Triangle area in 2013 - the Nuclear Nuggets AR! The NNAR is designed to introduce new adventure racers to this exciting sport while also giving experienced adventure racers the chance to sharpen their skills.

Bushwhack will be offering two courses at the Nuclear Nuggets AR - 4 hours and 8 hours.

In the 8 hour course, teams will be mountain biking, trekking, and paddling for up to 8 hours as they navigate their way to find checkpoint flags. Estimated distances in each discipline are: paddling 8-10 miles, trekking 5+ miles, biking 20+ miles. Your mileage may vary, depending on your team's navigation skills. :)

In the 4 hour course, teams will be mountain biking and trekking for up to 4 hours as they navigate their way to find checkpoint flags. Estimated distances in each discipline are: trekking 5+ miles, biking 10+ miles. Your mileage may vary, depending on your team's navigation skills. :)

The course format will be modified rogaine style, with teams having lots of freedom to choose the route they follow to find the checkpoints. The course will not be marked other than by the checkpoint flags themselves.

Scoring will be based on the accumulated point values of the checkpoints found. Some checkpoints are worth more than others, so teams get to use their brains as well as their bodies as they work out a winning strategy for accumulating the most points!

The event will start and finish at Wake County's Harris Lake County Park. Check the Schedule for exact times. Expect some of the traditional Bushwhack perks like a post-race meal, quality mytopo race maps and more!

First place teams in each Division will get their half of their entry fees back and a 50% discount towards a future Bushwhack Adventures event.

Participants who register by April 7th will get a race tshirt.

Sponsored in part by Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space.

Gear List

The Bushwhack Standard AR Gear List applies to the 2013 Nuclear Nuggets AR. No additional items are required. There is no paddling on the 4 hour course.
